Resort Unveils Old-Fashioned Candy Store Today!


 


The Place: From Good & Plenty to Red Hots to Twizzlers, the candy man certainly can at La Quinta Resort & Club, which has opened Lollipops, a traditional sweet shop offering a deliciously unique array of old-fashioned candy delicacies.


 


The Treats: Creamy homemade fudge, gourmet candy apples, sumptuous chocolate-dipped strawberries and decadent chocolates are crafted onsite by resort pastry chef Patrick Nettle, who will offer onsite fudge-making demonstrations at various times.


 


Hundreds of varieties of vintage treats such as lollipops, jelly beans, taffy, lemon drops, classic candy sticks, movie box candy, licorice and other delectables will sate the sweet tooths of youngsters and adults alike. Rounding out the mix of toothsome treats: sinful European-style chocolates such Seattle Chocolates, Elaine’s Toffees, Hammond’s Handmade hard candies, old-fashioned sodas and everyone’s favorite: Dippin’ Dots ice cream. Novelty items such as candy-themed pillows, metal lunch boxes and iPod ear phones are also for sale.

The Look:  Eye-popping interiors are modeled after a 1920s candy shop. Walls painted in bright orange, pink, white and stripes are lined with dozens of cabinets stocked with jars of hard candies and novelties, as well as traditional self-serve candy canisters. Six wooden barrels chock full of tempting taffies are situated throughout the store. 


 


The Cost: All bulk candy – jellybeans, gummy bears and hard candies – ranges from $3.50 for a quarter pound to $14 for one pound. Chocolates range from $8 to $15, and handmade treats such as fudge and candy apples from $3 to $15.


 


The Hours: Open daily, noon to 8 p.m.


 


The Location: In La Quinta Resort & Club’s central Plaza, alongside other boutiques and restaurants surrounded by colorful flowers, waterfalls and winding pathways.
