The feel of the racket spinning in your hands, you are tense and ready to spring with boundless energy. The surface of Centre Court beneath you feels responsive and true. A warm breeze is the only thing that disturbs the silence that surrounds the very place where the game’s greats still tread. In an explosion of power and fury, the serve is sent screaming toward you. Words from one of the game’s most celebrated teachers echo in your head as you stretch to return serve. And in this moment you understand why every game of tennis at La Quinta Resort begins with “love.”
Voted one of the top tennis resorts in the world, La Quinta Resort Tennis Club has attracted a veritable Who's Who of celebrities and pros – from Pancho Gonzales to Tracey Austin. The tennis program got underway in 1978 when a consortium of famed former players – led by Charlie Pasarell, along with Gorman, Arthur Ashe, Stan Smith, Bob Lutz, Marty Riessen, Roscoe Tanner and Dennis Ralston – joined forces to create one of the premier tennis facilities in the country. Pasarell and his team helped the resort gain national attention by staging a high-profile professional tournament sponsored by Grand Marnier, now known as the BNP Paribas Open, which eventually resulted in the resort’s sunken tournament-style center court, built in 1981.
